About Atlas
Atlas is a free world knowledge quiz. Pick one of twenty countries, play a round of 10, 20 or 30 questions, and read a short explanation after every answer. Pass the round's threshold and that country lights up on your own learning map.
What you'll find here
Twenty countries are playable today: China, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, South Korea, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa and India. That is 1,400 questions in total, covering history, geography, culture, science, food, festivals, landmark places and everyday life. Every country also has a short country guide you can read before or after playing.
Why we built it
Most trivia games only ask "what is the answer?" Atlas tries to answer "why does it matter?" We wanted a game that feels like reading a good travel chapter rather than filling out a test. A round takes three to ten minutes, and the explanations are written to be remembered, not to show off.
How it works
There are three difficulties: First Steps (ten questions), Finding Your Way (twenty) and Well Versed (thirty). Pass eight of ten, eighteen of twenty or twenty-eight of thirty to color the country. A perfect thirty earns gold. Your progress stays in this browser, so you can come back later and keep going.
Accuracy
The questions and explanations are written and edited by hand from standard references. We are human, so mistakes can slip through. If you spot one, the Contact page tells you how to report it, and we fix it as soon as we can.
The map
The world map is an illustrated progress view. Its borders are drawn for orientation and do not express a political position.
